Here’s last night’s set. There was an annual car event in town yesterday so we expected the average age of our crowd to be a little older than normal. For this reason, we decided not to play much new stuff and to keep it old-school with the dance music, and play more country and rock, which I ran until almost midnight lol.

So I’ve been listening to a lot of Alestorm lately, (check out No Grave But The Sea, it’s awesome), and it got me thinking: Modern “pirate” music has to be influenced by movies; like, culturally this is where we get our idea of what “pirate music” should sound like. Here is the playlist for the set I DJed last night. They are not all in order as I went back and forth between two different programs throughout the night, Serato for my main mixing and another for playing requests and songs I don’t have on my laptop. Had a ton of fun and a great crowd, started the night off with country/classic rock and then kicked off the dance music sometime between 10:30 and 11.

Here’s last night’s playlist. Pretty different than many of mine; there was one significant music folder I tried not to play out of, and by the end of the night I think I only played one song out of there. A lot of stuff I usually play (early in the night) didn’t get played at all. Also, I went a significant amount of the night before I realized I didn’t play almost anything above 100bpm. Love song

These are the lyrics to a song I’ve been working on for a couple years now. The first verse came to me one day in the shower, to the tune of Tom Petty’s Last Dance. Obviously I was single at the time. The second verse came to me one day while I was away from the wife for five weeks. Anyway, just think of the harmonica part at the break. It just needs a verse in between these two to connect them, and/or something to end it. Other than that though, I think it’s perfect so far.

Bold title, I know. Don’t get me wrong, I love music. But I don’t believe that anyone who truly loves music could possibly claim that they’re happy with the industry today, or even for the last 70 years or so. And it all comes down to one single, seemingly-innocent-yet-all-too-emphasized issue: The music industry is just that- industry. They’re about the money, not the music. That’s the problem. In order to sell albums, they must de-complicate everything creative and pander to the lowest common denominator.
